LPG
Taxi Pilot Scheme to Start Soon
The liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG) taxi pilot scheme took a big step forward
today (Saturday) when a group of taxi suppliers and licence
holders signed agreements with the Government to take part
in the year-long trial.
The scheme,
part of the government initiatives to cut down emission caused
by diesel vehicles, is scheduled to begin later this month
(November). It aims to collect data to demonstrate that LPG
taxis are operationally and commercially viable under local
condition.
Under
the agreement, the licencees will make available their taxi
licences to support the 30 LPG taxis to be supplied by the
motors companies.
During
the signing ceremony, Deputy Director of Environmental Protection,
Mr Mike Stokoe, signed the agreement on behalf of the Government
with the taxi licence holders and vehicle suppliers, and was
witnessed by the Deputy Secretary for Planning, Environment
and Lands, Mr
Benjamin Tang.
