EPD
publishes enhanced air pollution index information
The Environmental
Protection Department (EPD) published for the first time today
(Monday) newly enhanced air pollution index (API) information.
In addition
to the conventional General API, the new system includes also
a Roadside API which reports on the level of air pollution
in busy urban roads very close to the tail-pipe emissions
from motor vehicles. Furthermore, separate API readings are
provided for each of the EPD's ten monitoring stations.
The General
API ranged from 11 to 22 today. The highest General API was
recorded at Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan. The Roadside API ranged
from 32 to 60 and the Causeway Bay station recorded the highest
Roadside API. The forecast for tomorrow (Tuesday) is that
the General API will be 15 to 35 and the Roadside API will
be 40 to 65.
Leaflets
explaining the new API system can be obtained from various
offices of EPD. The public can also obtain information on
the API by calling 2827 8541 or through EPD's Internet website
at http://www.info.gov.hk/epd/.
