Beware
of bogus survey phone calls
The Environmental
Protection Department (EPD) today (Monday) urged members of
the public to be on guard when being phoned up by people claiming
to be conducting a survey on facsimile machine for the department.
An EPD
spokesman said the department had not conducted any such telephone
survey, nor has it authorised any agency to do such a survey
on its behalf.
The warning
was issued after the department received a number of reports
from the public that they had been phoned up by someone who
claimed to be conducting a survey for EPD and asked for details
of the model of their facsimile machines and toner cartridges
as well as their fax numbers.
The spokesman
said members of the public should be careful when they receive
phone calls of doubtful origin. They should record the caller's
number and if necessary refer the matter to the police.
