Waste reduction and recycling enquiry services extended
The public can now obtain information and seek advice on waste reduction and recovery programmes from the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) through the Internet.
A new E-mail address has been set up to further promote waste reduction and recycling activities in the local community.
The initiative came after a threefold increase in enquiries to the waste reduction and recycling hotline in the past five years - from 550 in 1992 to 1,788 in 1997.
The Principal Environmental Protection Officer, Dr Lau May-ming, said: "With an increase in public awareness on waste reduction, there are more people organising or participating in waste reduction and recovery activities.
"The enquiry and advisory services provided through the hotline and the Internet would provide them advice on programme planning and management, guidance materials, promotional posters and list of collectors etc."
The waste reduction and recycling enquiry services can be reached by calling 2755 2750, by faxing to 2994 9434 or through E-mail: [recycling_helpline@epd.gov.hk].
