Roadside
API forecasted to rise
The Environmental
Protection Department this morning (Thursday) forecasted that
the roadside Air Pollution Index (API) at Causeway Bay roadside
air quality monitoring station would reach 105 today.
"Persons
with heart or respiratory illnesses should reduce physical
exertion or avoid staying near roads with heavy traffic,"
the Principal Environmental Protection Officer, Mr Leung Pak-ming
said.
"Nitrogen
dioxide levels at roadside are increasing. Wind condition
at the vicinity of the monitoring station has been low since
yesterday afternoon. Dispersion is poor particularly at roadside.
"It is
expected that we would see even higher air pollution later
in the afternoon, if the weather condition does not improve,"
he said.
Members
of the public can check the API readings on 2827 8541 or from
EPD's website at "http://www.info.gov.hk/epd/".
