Roadside
API slightly improved
The Causeway
Bay air monitoring station today (Friday) recorded a roadside
Air Pollution Index (API) reaching 101 of the "very high"
band.
"This
is a slight improvement over yesterday. We still advise that
persons with heart or respiratory illnesses should reduce
physical exertion or avoid staying near roads with heavy traffic,"
the Principal Environmental Protection Officer, Mr Leung Pak-ming
said.
"The
outlook for the weekend is brighter. Hopefully, the wind condition
would improve, helping nitrogen dioxide to disperse more readily,"
he said.
Two other
roadside stations at Central and Mong Kok recorded APIs of
99 and 86 respectively. For the nine general stations, the
APIs today ranged from 57 to 75.
The API
forecast for tomorrow (Saturday) is 75 to 90 for the roadside
stations, and 55 to 70 for the general stations.
Members
of the public can check the API readings on 2827 8541 or from
EPD's website at http://www.info.gov.hk/epd/.
