API
expected to improve tomorrow
The Causeway
Bay air monitoring station today (Tuesday) recorded a roadside
Air Pollution Index (API) reaching 113 of the "very high"
band.
Another
roadside station at Mong Kok recorded APIs of 91. For the
general stations, the APIs today ranged from 64 to 80.
"We advise
that persons with heart or respiratory illnesses should reduce
physical exertion or avoid staying near roads with heavy traffic,"
the Principal Environmental Protection Officer, Mr Leung Pak-ming
said.
"The
air quality is expected to be better tomorrow. The wind condition
is improving, helping nitrogen dioxide to disperse more readily,"
he said.
The API
forecast for tomorrow (Wednesday) is 75 to 90 for the roadside
stations, and 55 to 65 for the general stations.
Members
of the public can check the API readings on 2827 8541 or from
EPD's website at "http://www.info.gov.hk/epd/".
