Air
pollution level improving
The Environmental
Protection Department today (Saturday) forecasted that the
Air Pollution Index (API) would improve tomorrow.
"Air
quality started to improve this morning, although today we
still recorded a general API of 100 at the Yuen Long and Tsuen
Wan stations and a roadside API of 107 at the Causeway Bay
station," the Principal Environmental Protection Officer,
Mr Leung Pak-ming said.
Air pollution
today ranged from high to very high. The APIs at the general
stations were between 55 and 100, while those for the roadside
stations were between 88 and 107.
"Yesterday,
we had very still wind conditions and pollutants could not
disperse sufficiently. The rain and better weather today has
helped the air quality to improve. We expect this trend will
continue tomorrow," Mr Leung said.
The API
forecast for tomorrow is 40 to 60 for the general air quality
stations and 65 to 80 for the roadside air quality stations.
Members
of the public can check the API readings on 2827 8541 or from
EPD's website at "http://www.info.gov.hk/epd/".
