Sewerage
improvement for Sha Tin and Tai Po villages
The Environmental
Protection Department (EPD) is planning to provide sewerage
to eight villages in Sha Tin and Tai Po as part of the government
effort to improve the water quality of Tolo Harbour.
The proposed works under the Tolo Harbour Sewerage of Unsewered
Areas Scheme was published in the Government Gazette today
(Friday).
Four of
the villages are in Sha Tin. They include Lok Lo Ha, To Fung
Shan, Sheung Wo Che and Ha Wo Che. The other four are in Tai
Po. They include Sha Lan, Wai Ha, A Shan Tseng Tau and Tung
Tsz.
An EPD
spokesman said that with the proposed works in place, sewage
generated from these areas would be collected for proper treatment
and disposal at the existing Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works
and Tai Po Sewage Treatment Works.
"The
system will effectively reduce the quantity of untreated sewage
discharged from these areas into the Shing Mun River and Tolo
Harbour and improve the sanitary conditions of these areas,"
he said.
The works
are scheduled to start in June 2001 and expected to be completed
in 20 months.
Details
of the proposal, in both English and Chinese, will be put
up at prominent positions near the works area.
Any person
who feels that he/she is affected by the works and wishes
to object to the above proposal is required to send his/her
objection in writing to the Director of Environmental Protection
on or before December 28, 1999.
