Proposed sewerage system at Tuen Mun North and Central

The Environmental Protection Department published in the government gazette today (Friday) a plan to build a public sewerage system in Tuen Mun to improve the water quality of Tuen Mun river channel.
The sewerage system will cover the unsewered areas of Nai Wai, Sun Fung Wai, Tuen Tsz Wai, Tsing Chuen Wai, San Hing Tsuen, Lam Tei, Tuen Mun San Tsuen, To Yuen Wai, Kei Lun Wai, Kau Hui San Tsuen and Yeung Siu Hang in Tuen Mun.

The system will effectively reduce the quantity of untreated sewage discharged from these areas into Tuen Mun river channel and improve the sanitary conditions of these areas, a spokesman for the Environmental Protection Department said.

"The proposed project will collect sewage generated from these areas for treatment and disposal at the existing Pillar Point Sewage Treatment Plant," he said.

The works, which will take about 48 months to complete, are scheduled to start in October 2001.

Details of the proposal, in both English and Chinese, will also be put up at prominent positions within the works area.
