Convicted pollution cases in November
A
total of 114 convictions were recorded in courts in November
for breaching anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental
Protection Department.
Of
these cases, 25 were convictions made under the Water Pollution
Control Ordinance, 34 under the Noise Control Ordinance, 25
under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance and 30 under the
Waste Disposal Ordinance.
The
fines ranged from $500 to $100,000.
Two
companies were fined $100,000 last month. Guardian Property
Management Limited was fined $100,000 for discharging waste/polluting
matter into the Western Buffer Water Control Zone, while Boldwin
Construction Company Limited was fined the same amount for
using powered mechanical equipment without a valid construction
noise permit.
