An EMS Manual (EM) - the
"road-map" of the EMS, outlining its structure, how it is
implemented, and the designation of staff responsibilities,
etc; |
|
Environmental Procedures (EP) -
describing how the EMS is implemented, such as evaluating
significant aspects, staff training, document control, EMS
auditing, etc; |
|
Environmental Instructions (EI)
- to control specific construction activities, such as best
environmental site practices, office and fleet management,
etc; |
|
Registers of Environmental
Aspects (EA) and Legal / Other Requirements (LR) -company-wide
(corporate), plus specific project registers for common
activities (demolition and foundation, drainage and road
works, building finishes works); |
|
An Environmental Management
Plan (EMP) and Waste Management Plan (WMP) - specific
requirements unique to companies in the construction
sector; |
|
Environmental Records (EF) -
"evidence" that the EMS procedures and instructions are
working effectively, for example objectives and targets,
training records, etc. |
This Practical Example demonstrates how the Generic ISO 14001
EMS Templates can be used by a small and medium sized enterprise
(SME) in the construction sector as the basis of an effective EMS.
The Practical Example includes:
The hypothetical enterprise ("Wan Bao
Construction Company") upon which this Practical Example is based
provides an extensive range of construction services, building and
civil engineering works. As such the example reflects the day-to-day
and project needs of most construction sector SMEs implementing an
EMS.
Case specific information for the
hypothetical companies (for instance, company background, process
description, organisation and staffing, environmental procedures and
instructions) are shown in red to distinguish from the generic
templates themselves. Where the official Chinese versions of
requirements such as legislation, industry guidelines, codes of
practice, etc, are unavailable, only the English version is
provided.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Whilst the information
provided in the Register of Environmental Aspects, Register of Legal
/ Other Requirements and other templates is extensive, it is not
exhaustive. All companies and projects are different. To be
effective your EMS needs to reflect the activities, products and
services of your company and address your specific environmental
impacts, legal requirements and operational processes, etc. You will
need to tailor your templates carefully, making full use of the User
Manual.
