Response of the Human Ear to Noise

Frequency is one of the properties of sound or noise. A sound with a high frequency is said to be high-pitched and a sound with a low frequency is low-pitched.

There is a remarkably wide range of frequencies and sound pressure levels over which the human ear can detect. The following diagram shows the audible range of a normal human ear. Please click on the demo button to see the details.

The audible sound pressure range is from 0 dB to 120 dB.
