Whilst these data give information on the stations at which the AQOs were exceeded, they do not indicate the extent of the exceedences in each case (or how close complying levels came to the AQO) and thus the severity of the pollution events. Table 5.4b indicates the concentrations of the respective pollutants for the annual and daily exceedences recorded.

The table shows that significant exceedences of annual AQOs for particulates (TSP and RSP) were recorded at Yuen Long, Mong Kok and Causeway Bay. Causeway Bay station also recorded the highest exceedences of daily NO2 levels as well as failing to comply with the annual air quality objective for NO2 in 1998.

In order to identify trends in non-compliance with criteria air pollutants, Table 5.4c shows the monitoring stations at which regular non-compliance has been recorded for the five year period from 1994 to 1998. A further summary table showing the compliance status of the Air Quality Objective is included in Annex G1.
