Six activities were selected for this background noise monitoring exercise:

• Cargo Handling Areas & Midstream Operations

• Open Storage Areas

• Industrial Estates

• Existing Industrial/Residential Interfaces

• Container Trucks Parking & Repair

• Container Terminal

These activities (or sources) were identified, in consultation with the Environmental Protection Department, as key non-transport related activities that have particular bearings on the ambient noise climate.

Out of these six representative activities, a total of 18 survey locations have been selected, listed in Table 3.1 and shown in Figure 3.1, based on the following criteria:

• select major representative activities and sources reflecting specific characteristics of the neighbourhoods;

• exclude locations directly affected by transport related noise, ie. those locations fronting transport corridors and activities; and

• monitoring is to be conducted at or in the vicinity of noise sensitive receivers (NSRs) that are exposed to the representative activities and sources.

For each survey location, a minimum of three monitoring stations were established and the detailed position of each monitoring stations are shown in Figure 1 - 18 in Appendix A.
