No representative NSRs for this study could be located in the vicinity of the terminal. In order to provide a good indication of the noise picture, three monitoring stations were selected at about 50 m, 100 m and 200 m away from the boundary of Terminal 8 respectively. Background traffic noise was the major noise source in the area. Table 4.6a presents the noise levels recorded at different distance from the noise source.

Comparable population exposure to different noise levels for Cargo Handling Area, Industrial/Residential Interface, Open Storage Area and Container Truck Parking & Repair of different sizes are shown in Figures 4.1, 4.2 & 4.3.
As shown in Figures 4.1, 4.2 & 4.3, the percentage of population exposed to each noise level band is very similar for different size of operation of the same activity. In general, for all monitored activity locations, higher population exposure falls in the lower noise level bands. And within the population affected by the lowest level band, a higher percentage of population is located near smaller size operations for the same activity. For noise generated in the Cargo Handling Area and the Industrial/Residential Interface, larger percentage of population is exposed to lower noise levels at evening and night-time period. |
