Mixed
Shrubland |

A
total of 17 sites (149 sub-sites) of mixed shrubland
were surveyed during the survey period. Of the
149 shrubland patches surveyed, over 40% of them
are 100% correct in mapping accuracy. The majority
of the mis-classified habitats are lowland forest
while some areas should have been mapped as Plantation
or Plantation/Mixed Forest (Table
6.1c). The proximity of the spectral properties
of these vegetation habitats and their tendency
to intermingle with each other have contributed
to the mis-identification. Some of the mapped
shrublands are actually shrubby grassland or cultivation.

The
habitat was found to be mapped with comparatively
low accuracy as over 60% of the wetland sub-sites
(in terms of number of sub-sites surveyed) were
mapped with > 80% inaccuracy (Table
6.1d). Many of the mapped wetland sites were
actually found to support other vegetation habitats,
such as lowland forest, mixed shruband, shrubby
grassland, cultivation and grassland. The mis-classification
is thought to be due to the spectral proximity of
these habitats to wetland. A number of the suspected
wetland sites were found to be of differing use,
such as construction sites or developed area (e.g.
Site 48 Kam Tin, Site 49 Ma On Kong and Site 50
Sheung Shui) and they were thus re-classified under
the "Other" category. Wetland areas where
no existing information was available or those not
covered by this study may require additional surveys
to verify their habitat type and map their boundaries.
