ECOLOGICAL FIELD SURVEY RESULTS - MAPPING ACCURACY

Shrubby
Grassland |

A
number of the mapped locations were found to be
mis-classified and represented other habitat categories.
The majority of the mis-identified areas were
occupied by lowland forest or mixed shrubland
(Table 6.1h).
Some of them were composed of exotic plant species
or grasses with no woody plants and were thus
re-classified as Plantation or Plantation/Mixed
Forest and Grassland, respectively. Patches of
bare rockcrops were recorded within some of the
mapped areas and were re-mapped as Bare Rock or
Soil. One of the surveyed sub-sites was observed
to be a patch of cultivated land and another site
was vegetated with cultivated species.

Baeckia
Shrubland |
|
|
|
Among
the 59 Baeckia shrubland sub-sites surveyed, only
a few patches (6) of them were mapped with 100%
accuracy. The majority of the mapped areas were
occupied by other habitats, such as mixed shrubland,
shrubby grassland, plantation and grassland (Table
6.1i). Mis-identification could be attributed
to the similarity of spectral properties of these
habitats. Some of the classified areas have been
developed into residential houses, modified into
chunam slopes (ie slopes sprayed with concrete on
surface to help stabilisation), or landscape areas.

6.1.11 |
Plantation
or Plantation/Mixed Forest |
|
|
|
Preliminary
mapping of the habitat shows that only one patch
(at Shek Pik) was mapped under this category. Mapping
was correct as the area was composed of mainly plantation
species. However, this habitat was found to be intermingled
with other vegetation habitats such as lowland forest
(see Section 6.4.3) and mixed shrubland (see Section
6.4.4). Those plantation areas which were re-identified
by field surveyors during site surveys were re-classified
as Plantation or plantation/Mixed Forest.
