CHAPTER 2 SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS

2.3 METHODOLOGY

The roadside TAP monitoring station was located at U core podium level of HKPU at 6m above and set back 8m from Hong Chong Road as shown in a campus map in Annex A. The site was characterised by typical "street-canyon" topography with high traffic volumes, in order to represent the typical urban setting of Hong Kong.

The site provided enough space for all the TAP monitoring equipment and an air-conditioned equipment shelter. An electricity supply for operating the TAP monitoring equipment as well as for the air-conditioning was provided to maintain the equipment in an operational state during the summer months. The site was also secured from possible tampering or vandalism.

2.3.1 Overview

The methodology used in this study was generally consistent with that applied at the two EPD TAP monitoring stations currently in operation, as specified in the EPD document, Ref PT/212/96, Supply, Installation, Establishment and Operation of 2 Toxic Air Pollutants Monitoring Stations - Notes for Tenderers. Utilisation of equivalent equipment and sampling methodology ensured direct comparability between the datasets. The monitoring station was operational for 12 months and throughout this period its operation , maintenance and the associated QA/QC programmes were equivalent to those implemented at the existing EPD TAP monitoring stations.
