The
results of applying the ranking system to the data collected
under this baseline survey, and under the SUSDEV 21
Environmental Baseline Survey, are plotted on the habitat
map to indicate which areas have high levels of conservation
value. Through customized plotting routines, the map
can be produced to show any one or combination of the
following:
-
Areas
of High Ecological Value
-
Areas
of Medium Ecological Value
-
Areas
of Low Ecological Value
-
Areas
of Negligible Ecological Value
-
Areas
of Heritage Value
-
Areas
of Recreational Value
-
Areas
of Landscape Value
-
Areas
of Specified Conservation Value
The
final category (Areas of Conservation Value) can be
defined based on an ad hoc user definition of the areas
to be plotted. For example, the user may specify the
conservation value map to show:
-
all
category "A" areas only; or
-
all
areas with categories ending in "+++"
only;. or
-
all
category "A" areas with at least 2 "+"s,
etc.
This
plotting system will have the benefit of allowing the
user to select the particular conservation value components
of greatest interest for presentation. It thus avoids
forcing all users to employ a single definition of conservation
value. Nevertheless the system concentrates on ecological
value, which is the focus of this baseline survey, and
will therefore readily support application of the indicators
involving areas of Hong Kong with high ecological value.
