Image processing was performed primarily on an Acer Pentium II personal computer with a 233 MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM and 12 GB hard disk space. The operating system was Microsoft Windows NT.

Besides image processing, other data processing and GIS functions were performed on the Acer personal computer as well as on a SUN SPARC ULTRA 10 workstation with a 300 MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM and 4 GB hard disk space. The operating system of the SUN workstation was Solaris 2.6.

Ortho-rectification (Section 4.2.1) of the aerial photos was performed using a PC-based DMS (Digital Mapping Software) from Survey Graphics, Australia. Mosaicing and colour balancing of the aerial photos was conducted using ER Mapper, Version 5.5a.

Ortho-rectification of the SPOT PAN satellite imagery was performed using software proprietary to Geoimage Pty. Ltd. Merging of low and high resolution satellite imagery was performed using MR/1 Version 1.0, written by Multi Resolutions Ltd. All other satellite image processing, including radiometric error correction (Section 4.2.1) and classification (Section 4.2.2) was conducted using ER Mapper Version 5.5a.

Other data processing including the generation of a digital elevation model (Section 4.2.1) was performed using ESRI's ArcInfo Version 7 on the SUN workstation and ArcView Version 3.1 on the Acer personal computer.
