The
majority of the quarries surveyed were mapped
with a high degree of accuracy as only a low percentage
(5 - 15%) of the mapped areas were mis-identified.
These areas were subsequently re-classified as
other habitat types, including Mixed Shrubland,
Shrubby Grassland and Other (Table 6.1q). Boundaries
of the three quarries surveyed were slightly different
from those indicated on the base map. The boundary
of the Anderson Road Quarry was found to be slightly
larger than indicated and this is probably due
to some areas being worked after the time when
the aerial photos/satellite imagery were taken.
The Mount Butler Quarry boundary was also slightly
different from that indicated. A small area near
the quarry edges were occupied by mixed shrubland
and lowland forest. The bottom area of the quarry
was found to have been used for storage. The Shek
O Quarry boundary was also slightly different
from that indicated and this is probably due in
part to the realignment of the Shek O Road and
the restoration of the slopes immediately above
and below the new road alignment.
