Ecological value of cultivation varied from high to low depending on the management status of the habitat. Habitats which were under active cultivation and therefore heavily disturbed (eg Site 139h) were downgraded to low value. Wet abandoned cultivated land (eg Site 143a) was assigned a high value as the habitat may provide suitable habitats for wetland species. It was noted that the identified wet abandoned cultivation (eg 143a and b) could possibly be developed into wetlands. Most of the medium or high valued cultivation habitats supported a number of vegetation species including invasive species (eg Alocasia odora). Fruit trees such as Euphoria longan and Litchi chinensis were also common in some of the surveyed areas (eg Site 139c). A number of avifaunal species were seen during field surveys indicating the importance of some of the habitats for wild birds (see Table G16 of Annex G for details). Cultivation sites where ecological value was adjusted are listed in Table 7.1p.
