Artificial
Rocky/ Hard Shoreline |
|
|
|
While
artificial rocky shores may serve a similar
habitat function to natural rocky shore if
they mimic natural gradients and provide varied
microhabitats, vertical seawalls (eg Ap Lei
Chau) provide little habitat value. However,
the artificial shore located at High Island
Reservoir, which is made up of "dollos",
was found to support comparable species diversity
and abundance than natural rocky shores (see
Table G20 of Annex G for details). In addition,
coral colonies have been reported to occur
in the low tidal region of the habitat. Therefore,
ecological value was upgraded from low to medium*
(Table 7.1q).

Habitat
is made up of "dollos" and
supported comparatively lower species
diversity and abundance than high ecological
value areas such as Basalt and Bluff
Islands. Coral colonies have been reported
to occur in the low tidal region of the
habitat (Binnie 1996).

Golf
Course/ Urban Park (Indicative Ecological Value:
Low) |
|
|
|
The
two selected sites, ie Ocean Park and Chung
Hom Kok Park, were found be to mainly occupied
by natural vegetation, such as lowland forest,
mixed shrubland or shrubby grassland, their
ecological value was upgraded from the indicative
low to medium and high, respectively (Table
7.1r) (see Table G21 of Annex G for details).

Ocean Park |
a |
Medium |
The majority of the park area was found to
be occupied by natural vegetation habitats,
such as lowland forest, mixed shrubland,
shrubby grassland and grassland. Little
human disturbance was observed in most
of the habitat area (except for easily
accessible areas).

Chung Hom Kok Park |
a |
High |
The majority of the park area was found to
be occupied by natural vegetation habitats,
such as lowland forest, mixed shrubland,
shrubby grassland and grassland. The
habitat was relatively intact and subjected
to little human disturbance.

Quarry
(Indicative Ecological Value: Low) |
|
|
|
As
no ecological important species, such as birds
of prey, were observed in any of the quarry sites
during the field visits, ecological value of
the quarry habitats is low and no adjustment
has been made (see Table G22 of Annex G for details).
