“South Horizons’ waste separation programme has been in place for several years. Initially we collected waste paper, plastic bottles and aluminium cans in the 3-coloured waste separation bins, but since 2006 we have collected other types of recyclables including other metals and plastics. These efforts have received overwhelming support from residents.”

South Horizons received a Diamond Award and an Award for Highest Recyclables Quantity in the Competition on Source Separation of Domestic Waste 2007/08.
  
A collection box for junk mail and promotional leaflets has been placed in the lobby of each tower.
 
A compressor in the estate’s refuse collection room reduces the volume of discarded magazines and newspaper. This makes it possible to store items for a longer period and reduce the frequency of collection required, thus also saves on transportation costs.  
Waste separation facilities have been set up at various locations on the estate to collect a wide range of recyclables, including rechargeable batteries, used clothes and books.
     
The estate co-organises recycling activities with voluntary organisations on a regular basis. Re-usable items, such as electrical appliances, used clothes, toys and house wares, are donated to these organisations and the needy.
